The Athenaeum Society of Nova Scotia is a not for profit society registered with the Joint Stock Registry of Nova Scotia. The founders of the Society realised that there were many active and retired university professors and other experts in many fields of endeavor living on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. They decided to find a way in which this knowledge and talent could be made available to a wider audience. To this end the Society was created to provide a forum in which these experts could make presentations in a friendly and relaxed venue.
Meetings are held at the Ocean Swells Community Centre in Northwest Cove on the 3rd Sunday of each month (except July, August and December) starting at 2:30pm. Presentations, which normally last about 45 minutes, are followed by a question period and then a social period featuring coffee, tea and cookies and desserts. The social period gives the opportunity for the members and visitors to have further discssion with our speaker.
